Onion, bell pepper, mushroom, ground beef and melty cheese combine to transform into an irresistably easy Philly cheesesteak sloppy joe.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 onion diced finely
  • 1 small bell pepper diced finely
  • 8 ounces white mushrooms diced finely
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 8 ounces shredded cheese such as Monterey Jack or Provolone
  • 6-8 hamburger buns

Method
 

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms and cook until tender, 4-5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink; drain off excess grease and return the mixture to the skillet.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, ketchup, and cornstarch.
  5. Mix the broth into the beef mixture and cook over medium-high heat 4-5 minutes, until the mixture has thickened.
  6. To serve, spoon a generous portion of the beef mixture onto a hamburger bun and top with shredded cheese.
