Chocolate Cream of Wheat

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon Dutch process cocoa can use regular cocoa, but Dutch process is best
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or brown sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/3 cup Original Cream of Wheat cereal
  • Toppings optional, such as cream, yogurt, whipped cream, chocolate chips, or fresh fruit

Method
 

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine milk, water, butter, cocoa, maple syrup, and salt. Heat over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until it's steamy but not quite boiling.
  2. Reduce to medium heat and whisk in Cream of Wheat.
  3. Cook, whisking constantly, for 2-3 minutes or until thickened to your taste.
  4. Pour into a bowl and add toppings, if desired.
  5. Let cool slightly before serving.
