Skip the coffee shop and make this creamy, sweet vanilla coffee creamer at home with only three simple ingredients.

Easy Homemade Vanilla Sweet Cream for Cold Brew

If you’ve ever ordered a Starbucks Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew, you already know how delicious that silky vanilla cream tastes. Vanilla sweet cream transforms an ordinary coffee into something special. The good news is that making your own version couldn’t be easier.

This easy Starbucks copycat recipe uses only half & half, sugar, and vanilla extract. There are no artificial flavors or preservatives. Everything comes together in less than two minutes.

My favorite part is how little effort this recipe requires. I simply pour everything into a mason jar, shake it well, and store it in the refrigerator. Whenever I brew hot coffee, homemade cold brew, or use cold brew concentrate, my vanilla sweet cream is at the ready.

It tastes remarkably close to the Starbucks version. Even better, I can enjoy my favorite coffee drink from the comfort of my own home. That saves both time and money throughout the week.

If you’re a coffee lover, this recipe deserves a permanent place in your refrigerator.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • This recipe uses only three everyday ingredients that you probably already have at home.
  • There is no cooking involved, and you won’t need an immersion blender or handheld frother.
  • The sugar dissolves easily with a little shaking.
  • Unlike many other copycat recipes, this one uses plain ol’ sugar and avoids sweetened condensed milk.
  • The vanilla flavor is rich without being overpowering.
  • A mason jar doubles as both your mixing bowl and storage container.
  • Best of all, this sweet vanilla cream tastes wonderful in hot coffee, iced coffee, and cold brew coffee. You’ll skip another drive-through line without sacrificing flavor.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces half & half
  • 1/8 to 1/4 cup sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Tip: Using good vanilla extract makes a noticeable difference. It creates the best flavor with very little effort.

Equipment

  • Mason jar with a pour spout lid (or other well sealed container for storing)
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

A glass mason jar works perfectly for this recipe. I love using a pour spout lid because serving coffee each morning is quick and mess-free. Since a standard mason jar is 16 ounces and half and half often comes in 16-ounce cartons, I pour about 3/4 of the carton in the mason jar, add the sugar and vanilla extract, shake, add the rest of the half and half, then shake gently once more.

How to Make Homemade Vanilla Sweet Cream

  1. Pour most of the half & half into your mason jar. Add the sugar and vanilla extract. (Note: I use 1/8 cup sugar because I prefer a less sweet coffee, but if you prefer it sweeter, use up to 1/4 cup sugar.)
  2. Secure the lid tightly and shake until sugar dissolves.
  3. Add the rest of the half & half and shake gently once more. (Adding the last bit at the end just helps avoid spilling.)
  4. Keep the vanilla sweet cream stored in the refrigerator. Your homemade vanilla sweet cream is ready whenever you are. Just give it a quick shake before adding it to your coffee.

I love making a fresh batch every week. It takes only minutes and makes every morning feel a little more special.

Serving Ideas

  • Pour a generous splash into pre-made cold brew coffee for a creamy, refreshing iced coffee drink. It also tastes fantastic stirred into hot coffee on chilly mornings.
  • Get fancy and add this vanilla sweet cream to French press coffee. Oh la la.
  • This sweet cream works beautifully with homemade cold brew or cold brew concentrate. Simply pour it over ice cubes and enjoy.
  • It also makes iced lattes taste like they came from your favorite coffee shop.

Tips for the Best Vanilla Sweet Cream

  • Use fresh half & half for the creamiest texture. Store the mixture in a sealed mason jar and keep it refrigerated.
  • Give the jar a quick shake before every use. Some sugar may settle while the mixture sits, but it blends right back together.
  • If your ingredients came straight from the refrigerator, the sugar may dissolve more slowly. Simply shake the jar a little longer. Room temperature ingredients dissolve slightly faster.

Easy Variations

  • Want a richer version? Replace part of the half & half with heavy cream. The result is thicker and even creamier.
  • For a lighter option, use whole milk or 2% milk instead. Almond milk or oat milk also work, although the texture will be thinner.
  • You can also substitute maple syrup for the sugar, although it will take much less maple syrup. Adjust the amount to your preferred sweetness. It creates a slightly different sweetness with a subtle maple flavor.

Storage

Store your vanilla sweet cream in the refrigerator in a tightly sealed mason jar or other sealed container. It stays fresh for about one week. Always give it a quick shake before pouring. That keeps everything smooth and well combined.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does this taste like Starbucks Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew? Yes. It tastes surprisingly close to the Starbucks version. Many people cannot tell much difference.
  • Can I use heavy whipping cream? Absolutely. Heavy whipping cream creates a thicker consistency. Half & half gives the cream a lighter texture that pours beautifully.
  • Can I use homemade vanilla syrup? Yes. Homemade vanilla syrup works well if you already have some prepared. You may want to reduce or skip the sugar and/or vanilla extract if using vanilla syrup.
  • Can I make this dairy-free? You can experiment with oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. The flavor will be different but still delicious, and the texture will be lighter. Certainly less creamy if using dairy-free.
  • Does the sugar fully dissolve? Yes. The sugar dissolves after a good shake. Simply shake the jar again before each use.
  • Can I froth this? Yes. A handheld frother or electric milk frother creates a light foam that tastes wonderful on iced coffee drinks.

This homemade vanilla sweet cream allows me to make my favorite fancy iced coffee drink at home. It’s quicker, cheaper, and I’d even venture to say more delicious.

Three simple ingredients create a delicious coffee drink every time. It takes almost no effort, saves money each week, and makes every cup feel a little more special.

Whether you’re enjoying homemade cold brew or a steaming mug of hot coffee, this easy recipe brings coffee shop flavor home without leaving your kitchen.
